Our school is named after Mikiel Anton Vassalli, one of the national patriots of Malta.

Mikiel Anton Vassalli was born in the village of Zebbug, Malta in 1764. His family were peasants and his childhood was quite simple and poor. At the age of only two, his father passed away.

At the age of only 21 years he was already studying Oriental Languages at the 'La Sapienza' University in Rome. During the nineties he published 'L-Alfabett Malti' (Maltese Alphabet, 1790), 'Il-Milsen' (Maltese Grammar in Latin, 1791) and 'Ktieb il-Kliem Malti' (Maltese - Latin- Italian Dictionary, 1796).

Other publications were 'Ktieb il-Qwiel Malti' (1828). Maltese Grammar in Italian (1827) and the translation of the Gospel.

Vassalli died in 1829 and was buried in an English Cemetary.
